[ Nathan -Rebukes- David ]
And the Lord sent Nathan to David. He came to him and said to him,
“There were two men in a certain city,
the
one rich and the other poor.
3 but the poor man had nothing but one little ewe lamb, which he had bought.
And he brought it up,
and
it grew up with him
and
with his children.
It used to eat of his morsel and drink from his cup and lie in his arms,
and
it was like a daughter to him.
4 Now there came a traveler to the rich man,
and
he was unwilling to take one of his own flock or herd to prepare
for the guest who had come to him,
but
he took the poor man's lamb
and
prepared it for the man who had come to him.”

Lords Judgment of David's sin
the angel of the Lord was by the threshing floor of Araunah the Jebusite
________________________________________________________________
10 But David's heart struck him after he had numbered the people. And David said to the Lord,
“I have sinned greatly in what I have done. But now, O Lord, please take away the iniquity of your servant, for I have done very foolishly.”
11 And when David arose in the morning, the word of the Lord came to the prophet Gad, David's seer, saying,
12 “Go and say to David, ‘Thus says the Lord, Three things I offer you.
Choose one of them, that I may do it to you.’”
13 So Gad came to David and told him,
and
said to him,
“Shall three years of famine come to you in your land?
Or
will you flee three months before your foes while they pursue you?
Or
shall there be three days' pestilence in your land?
Now consider,
and
decide what answer I shall return to him who sent me.”
|
14 Then David said to Gad,
“I am in great distress. Let us fall into the hand of the Lord, for his mercy is great;
but
let me not fall into the hand of man.”
15 So the Lord sent a pestilence on Israel from the morning until the appointed time.
And there died of the people from Dan to Beersheba -70,000 men.
|
16 And when the angel stretched out his hand toward Jerusalem to destroy it,
the Lord relented from the calamity
and
said to the angel who was working destruction among the people,
“It is enough; now stay your hand.”
And the angel of the Lord was by the threshing floor of Araunah the Jebusite.
17 Then David spoke to the Lord when he saw the angel who was striking the people,
and said,
“Behold, I have sinned, and I have done wickedly. But these sheep, what have they done?
Please let your hand be against me
and
against my father's house.”

[ Nathan -Rebukes- David ]
2 The rich man had very many flocks and herds,
3 but the poor man had nothing but one little ewe lamb, which he had bought.
5 Then David's anger was greatly kindled against the man,
and
he said to Nathan,
“As the Lord lives, the man who has done this deserves to die,
6 and he shall restore the lamb fourfold, because he did this thing, and because he had no pity.”
7 Nathan said to David,
“You are the man! Thus says the Lord, the God of Israel, ‘I anointed you king over Israel,
and
I delivered you out of the hand of Saul.
8 And I gave you your master's house and your master's wives into your arms
and
gave you the house of Israel and of Judah.
And if this were too little, I would add to you as much more.
9 Why have you despised the word of the Lord,
to do what is evil in his sight?
You have struck down -Uriah the Hittite with the sword and have taken his wife to be your wife
and
have killed him with the sword of the Ammonites.
10 Now therefore the sword shall never depart from your house,
because you have despised me
and
have taken the wife of Uriah the Hittite to be your wife.’
11 Thus says the Lord, ‘Behold,
I will raise up evil against you out of your own house.
And I will take your wives before your eyes and give them to your neighbor,
and
he shall lie with your wives in the sight of this sun.
12 For you did it secretly, but I will do this thing before all Israel and before the sun.’”
13 David said to Nathan, “I have sinned against the Lord.” And Nathan said to David, “The Lord also has put away your sin; you shall not die.
14 Nevertheless, because by this deed you have utterly scorned the Lord,
the child who is born to you shall die.”
15 Then Nathan went to his house. David's Child Dies And the Lord afflicted the child
that Uriah's wife bore to David, and he became sick.
16 David therefore sought God on behalf of the child.
And David fasted and went in and lay all night on the ground.
17 And the elders of his house stood beside him, to raise him from the ground,
but he would not, nor did he eat food with them.
18 On the seventh day the child died. And the servants of David were afraid to tell him that the child was dead, for they said,
“Behold, while the child was yet alive, we spoke to him, and he did not listen to us.
How then can we say to him the child is dead?
He may do himself some harm.”
19 But when David saw that his servants were whispering together, David understood that the child was dead. And David said to his servants,
“Is the child dead?”
They said, “He is dead.”
20 Then David arose from the earth and washed and anointed himself and changed his clothes. And he went into the house of the Lord and worshiped. He then went to his own house.
And when he asked, they set food before him,
and he ate.
21 Then his servants said to him, “What is this thing that you have done?
You fasted and wept for the child while he was alive; but when the child died,
you arose and ate food.”
22 He said, “While the child was still alive, I fasted and wept, for I said, ‘Who knows whether the Lord will be gracious to me, that the child may live?’
23 But now he is dead.
Why should I fast? Can I bring him back again?
I shall go to him,
but he will not return to me.”

Solomon's Birth
24 Then David comforted his wife, Bathsheba,
and
went in to her and lay with her, and she bore a son, and he called his name Solomon.
And the Lord loved him
25 and sent a message by Nathan the prophet.
So he called his name Jedidiah, because of the Lord.

The Crucifixion
So they took Jesus,
17 and he went out, bearing his own cross, to the place called The Place of a Skull,
which in Aramaic, is called Golgotha.
18 There they crucified him, and with him two others, one on either side,
and
Jesus between them.
19 Pilate also wrote an inscription and put it on the cross.
It read, “Jesus of Nazareth, the King of the Jews.”
20 Many of the Jews read this inscription, for the place where Jesus was crucified
was near the city,
and
it was written in Aramaic, in Latin, and in Greek.
21 So the chief priests of the Jews said to Pilate,
“Do not write, ‘The King of the Jews,’
but rather,
‘This man said, I am King of the Jews.’”
22 Pilate answered,
“What I have written I have written.”
23 When the soldiers had crucified Jesus, they took his garments
and
divided them into four parts, one part for each soldier;
also his tunic.
But the tunic was seamless, woven in one piece from top to bottom,
24 so they said to one another,
“Let us not tear it, but cast lots for it to see whose it shall be.”
This was to fulfill the Scripture which says,
“They divided my garments among them,
and
for my clothing they cast lots.”
So the soldiers did these things,
25 but standing by the cross of Jesus were his mother and his mother's sister,
Mary the wife of Clopas, and Mary Magdalene.
26 When Jesus saw his mother and the disciple whom he loved standing nearby,
he said to his mother,
“Woman, behold, your son!”
27 Then he said to the disciple, “Behold, your mother!” And from that hour the disciple took her to his own home.
The Death of Jesus
28 After this, Jesus, knowing that all was now finished, said (to fulfill the Scripture),
“I thirst.”
29 A jar full of sour wine stood there, so they put a sponge full of the sour wine on a hyssop branch and held it to his mouth.
30 When Jesus had received the sour wine,
he said,
“It is finished,” and he bowed his head and gave up his spirit.
Jesus' Side Is Pierced
31 Since it was the day of Preparation, and so that the bodies would not remain on the cross on the Sabbath (for that Sabbath was a high day), the Jews asked Pilate that their legs might be broken and that they might be taken away.
32 So the soldiers came and broke the legs of the first,
and
of the other who had been crucified with him.
33 But when they came to Jesus and saw that he was already dead, they did not break his legs.
34 But one of the soldiers pierced his side with a spear, and at once there came out blood
and water.
35 He who saw it has borne witness—his testimony is true, and he knows that he is telling the truth—that you also may believe.
36 For these things took place that the Scripture might be fulfilled:
“Not one of his bones will be broken.”
37 And again another Scripture says, “They will look on him whom they have pierced.”
Jesus Is Buried
38 After these things Joseph of Arimathea, who was a disciple of Jesus,
but secretly for fear of the Jews,
asked Pilate that he might take away the body of Jesus,
and
Pilate gave him permission. So he came and took away his body.
39 Nicodemus also, who earlier had come to Jesus by night, came bringing a mixture of myrrh and aloes, about seventy-five pounds in weight.
40 So they took the body of Jesus and bound it in linen cloths with the spices, as is the burial custom of the Jews.
41 Now in the place where he was crucified there was a garden, and in the garden a new tomb in which no one had yet been laid.
42 So because of the Jewish day of Preparation, since the tomb was close at hand,
they laid Jesus there.
