History
History of Bavaria Prehistoric Heunischenburg, in the vicinity of Kronach The Bavarians emerged in a region north of the Alps, originally inhabited by the Gauls, which had been part of the Roman provinces of Raetia and Noricum. The Bavarians spoke Old High German but, unlike other Germanic groups, probably did not migrate from elsewhere (however, according to the narrative traditions collected by Anno, the Bishop of Cologne, and some other documents, the Bavarians had come from Armenia.[3]). Rather, they seem to have coalesced out of other groups left behind by Roman withdrawal late in the 5th century. These peoples may have included the Celtic Boii, some remaining Romans, Marcomanni, Allemanni, Quadi, Thuringians, Goths, Scirians, Rugians, Heruli. The name "Bavarian" ("Baiuvarii") means "Men of Baia" which may indicate Bohemia, the homeland of the Celtic Boii and later of the Marcomanni. They first appear in written sources c. 520. Saint Boniface completed the people's conversion to Christianity in the early-8th century. Bavaria was, for the most part, unaffected by the Protestant Reformation.
From about 554 to 788, the house of Agilolfing ruled the Duchy of Bavaria, ending with Tassilo III who was deposed by Charlemagne.

The Habsburg Monarchy (or Habsburg Empire) covered the territories ruled by the junior Austrian branch of the House of Habsburg (1278–1780), and then by the successor House of Habsburg-Lorraine (from 1780), between 1526 and 1867/1918. The Imperial capital was Vienna, except from 1583 to 1611,[2] when it was moved to Prague. From 1804 to 1867 the Habsburgs ruled the Austrian Empire and from 1867 to 1918 Austria-Hungary.

_Rudolph was the son of Count Albert IV of Habsburg and Hedwig, daughter of Count Ulrich of Kyburg, and was born at Limburg Castle near Sasbach am Kaiserstuhl in the Breisgau region. At his father's death in 1239, he inherited large estates from his father around the ancestral seat of Habsburg Castle in the Aargau region of present-day Switzerland as well as in Alsace. In 1245 Rudolph married Gertrude, daughter of Count Burkhard III of Hohenberg. As a result, he became an important vassal in Swabia, the former Alemannic German stem duchy.

When the child had grown, he went out one day to his father among the reapers.
19 And he said to his father,
“Oh, my head, my head!” The father said to his servant,
“Carry him to his mother.”
20 And when he had lifted him and brought him to his mother,
the child sat on her lap till noon,
and
then he died.
21 And she went up and laid him on the bed of the man of God
and
shut the door behind him
and
went out.
22 Then she called to her husband and said,
“Send me one of the servants and one of the donkeys,
that I may quickly go to the man of God
and
come back again.”
23 And he said,
“Why will you go to him today? It is neither new moon nor Sabbath.”
She said, “All is well.”
24 Then she saddled the donkey, and she said to her servant,
“Urge the animal on;
do not slacken the pace for me unless I tell you.”
25 So she set out and came to the man of God at Mount Carmel.

And when they came to the Jordan, they cut down trees.
5 But as one was felling a log, his axe head fell into the water, and he cried out,
“Alas, my master! It was borrowed.”
6 Then the man of God said,
“Where did it fall?”
When he showed him the place, he cut off a stick

made the iron float.
7 And he said, “Take it up.”
