Christianity in particular was practiced in secret and the Hellenization of Palestine continued under Septimius Severus (193–211 CE).[57] New pagan cities were founded in Judea at Eleutheropolis (Bayt Jibrin), Diopolis (Lydd), and Nicopolis(Emmaus). |

During the Hasmonean period, Emmaus became a regional administrative centre (toparchy) in the Ayalon Valley.[4] Josephus Flavius mentions Emmaus in his writings several times.[5] He speaks about the destruction of Emmaus by the Romans in the year 4 B. C.[6]

After the defeat of the Bar-Kochba’s revolt in the first half of the 2nd century CE, Romans and Samaritans settled in Emmaus. In the early 3rd century CE, a Christianscholar and writer born in Jerusalem, Julius Africanus, lived in Emmaus.[7] According to Eusebius of Caesarea, St. Jerome, Philip of Side and others, Africanus led a delegation of local residents to the Roman emperor Elagabalus, obtaining for Emmaus the status of a city (polis) and the name of "Nicopolis," which it bore during the late Roman period and throughout the Byzantine period. The ancient Christian tradition of the Church fathers, as well as pilgrims to the Holy Land during the Roman-Byzantine period, unanimously recognized Nicopolis as the Emmaus in the Gospel of Luke. The International Court of Justice ruling of 9 July 2004 however found that the West Bank, including East Jerusalem, is territory held by Israel under military occupation, regardless of its status prior to it coming under Israeli occupation and the Fourth Geneva convention applies de jure.[33] The international community regards the West Bank (including East Jerusalem) as territories occupied by Israel.[34]
International law (Article 49 of the Fourth Geneva Convention) prohibits "transfers of the population of an occupying power to occupied territories", incurring a responsibility on the part of Israel's government to not settle Israeli citizens in the West Bank.[35]

Mevo Horon (Hebrew: מְבוֹא חוֹרוֹן, lit. Horon Gateway) is an Israeli settlement and religious moshav shitufi in theWest Bank.
Located near Latrun and Modi'in, it falls under the jurisdiction of Mateh Binyamin Regional Council. In 2007, it had a population of 1,200. The international community considers Israeli settlements in the West Bank illegal under international law, but the Israeli government disputes this.[1]
The village was established in 1970 by members of the Ezra youth movement and was the first village in the Mateh Binyamin council area. It moved to present site in 1974.[2] It is named after the biblical Beit Horon (Joshua 10:10), which was located near the modern Israeli village and settlement of Beit Horon.
Mateh Binyamin Regional Council (Hebrew: מועצה אזורית מטה בנימין, Mo'atza Azorit Mateh Binyamin) is a regional council covering 42 Israeli settlements and outposts in the southern Samarian hills of the West Bank. The seat of the council is Psagot.[1][dead link]
The council is named for the ancient Israelite tribe of Benjamin, whose territory roughly corresponds to that of the council. The region in which the Binyamin settlements are located is referred to as the Binyamin Region.
In November 2007, Avi Roeh was elected head of the council.
The previous head, Pinchas Wallerstein stepped down after being in the position for 28 years.[2]
Psagot (Hebrew: פְּסָגוֹת, lit. Peaks) is a communal Israeli settlement in the West Bank located north of Jerusalem on Tawil hill adjacent to Ramallah, al-Bireh, and Kokhav Ya'akov.
Psagot, established in 1981, falls under the jurisdiction of Binyamin Regional Council, with the council's headquarters located there.[1]
In 2008 it had a population of 1,623.[2]
The international community considers Israeli settlements in the West Bank illegal under international law, but the Israeli government disputes this.[3]
The name Psagot was proposed by one of the early residents, Moshe Bar-Asher, a professor and head of The Academy of the Hebrew Language.
It expresses the hope that the new village will achieve a peak in settlement and study of the Torah.[4]
The name also refers to the location of Psagot on the peak of Mount Tawil.[1]
This regional council provides various municipal services for the 42 settlements within its territory:

A clan is generally a descent group claiming common descent from an apical ancestor.
Often, the details of parentage are not important elements of the clan tradition. Non-human apical ancestors are called totems.
Examples of clans are found in Chechen, Chinese, Irish, Japanese, Polish, Scottish, Tlingit, and Somali societies.

Teip (also taip and taipa, Vaynakh тайпа [ˈtajpə]: family, kin, clan, tribe[1]) is a Chechen and Ingush tribal organization or clan, self-identified through descent from a common ancestor and geographic location. There are about 130-233 teips (though some sources state that there may be as many as 300). More than 20 teips originated from newcomers, in particular Avars, Kumyks, Jews, Georgians, Russians, Turks. The taips descending of non-Ingush or non-Chechen ancestors are called impure teips (in other language: su’lijn taipa, соьли тайпа). A teip's internal dynamic is based on honor and blood feuds plays major role. The teip membership and the tukkhum membership defined the social position of a Chechen. The lack of any affiliation of a person can be described as “This man has neither a teip nor a tukkhum”.
Some historians have speculated that the Kumyks may be descendants of the Khazars, such as the Hungarian historian Ármin Vámbéry, who believed that they settled in their present territory during the flourishing period of the Khazar Khaganate in the 8th century.
