The Golden- Calf
Then I took the sinful thing, the calf that you had made,
and
burned it with fire and crushed it, grinding it very small, until it was as fine as dust.
And I threw the dust of it into the brook that ran down from the mountain.

Remember Your Creator in Your Youth
12 Remember also your Creator in the days of your youth,
before the evil days come and the years draw near of which you will say,
“I have no pleasure in them”; 2 before the sun and the light
and
the moon and the stars are darkened and the clouds return after the rain,
3 in the day when the keepers of the house tremble, and the strong men are bent,
and
the grinders cease because they are few,
and
those who look through the windows are dimmed,
4 and the doors on the street are shut—when the sound of the grinding is low,
and
one rises up at the sound of a bird,
and
all the daughters of song are brought low— 5 they are afraid also of what is high,
and
terrors are in the way; the almond tree blossoms, the grasshopper -drags itself along,
and
desire fails, because man is going to his eternal home,
and
the mourners go about the streets— 6 before the silver- cord is snapped,
or
the golden bowl is broken, or the pitcher is shattered at the fountain,
or
the wheel broken at the cistern,
7 and the dust returns to the earth as it was,
and
the spirit returns to God who gave it.
8 Vanity of vanities, says the Preacher; all is vanity.

[ No One Knows That Day and Hour /
36 “But concerning that day and hour no one knows, not even the angels of heaven,
nor the Son, but the Father only.
37 For as were the days of Noah, so will be the coming of the Son of Man.
38 For as in those days before the flood they were eating and drinking, marrying and giving in marriage, until the day when Noah entered the ark,
39 and they were unaware until the flood came and swept them all away,
so will be the coming of the Son of Man.
40 Then two men will be in the field; one will be taken and one left.
41 Two women will be grinding at the mill; one will be taken and one left.
42 Therefore, stay awake, for you do not know on what day your Lord is coming.
43 But know this, that if the master of the house had known in what part of the night
the thief was coming,
he would have stayed awake and would not have let his house be broken into.
44 Therefore you also must be ready,
for the Son of Man is coming at an hour you do not expect.
45 “Who then is the faithful and wise servant, whom his master has set over his household,
to give them their food at the proper time?
46 Blessed is that servant whom his master will find so doing when he comes.
47 Truly, I say to you, he will set him over all his possessions.
48 But if that wicked servant says to himself,
‘My master is delayed,’
49 and begins to beat his fellow servants and eats
and
drinks with drunkards,
50 the master of that servant will come on a day when he does not expect him and at
an hour he does not know
51 and will cut him in pieces and put him with the hypocrites.
In that place there will be weeping and gnashing of teeth.

Jesus Heals a Boy with an Unclean Spirit
14 And when they came to the disciples, they saw a great crowd around them,
and scribes arguing with them.
15 And immediately all the crowd, when they saw him, were greatly amazed and ran up to him and greeted him.
16 And he asked them,
“What are you arguing about with them?”
17 And someone from the crowd answered him, “Teacher, I brought my son to you,
for he has a spirit that makes him mute.
18 And whenever it seizes him, it throws him down,
and
he foams and grinds his teeth and becomes rigid.
So I asked your disciples to cast it out, and they were not able.”
19 And he answered them,
“O faithless generation, how long am I to be with you? How long am I to bear with you?
Bring him to me.”
20 And they brought the boy to him. And when the spirit saw him, immediately it convulsed the boy, and he fell on the ground and rolled about, foaming at the mouth.
21 And Jesus asked his father,
“How long has this been happening to him?”
And he said, “From childhood.
22 And it has often cast him into fire and into water, to destroy him. But if you can do anything, have compassion on us and help us.”
23 And Jesus said to him,
“‘If you can’!
All things are possible for one who believes.”
24 Immediately the father of the child cried out and said, “I believe; help my unbelief!”
25 And when Jesus saw that a crowd came running together,
he rebuked the unclean spirit,
saying to it,
“You mute and deaf spirit, I command you, come out of him and never enter him again.”
26 And after crying out and convulsing him terribly, it came out,
and
the boy was like a corpse, so that most of them said,
“He is dead.”
27 But Jesus took him by the hand and lifted him up, and he arose.
28 And when he had entered the house, his disciples asked him privately,
“Why could we not cast it out?”
29 And he said to them, “This kind cannot be driven out by anything but prayer.”

The Coming of the Kingdom
20 Being asked by the Pharisees when the kingdom of God would come, he answered them,
“The kingdom of God is not coming in ways that can be observed,
21 nor will they say, ‘Look, here it is!’ or ‘There!’ for behold,
the kingdom of God is in the midst of you.”
22 And he said to the disciples, “The days are coming when you will desire to see
one of the days of the Son of Man,
and
you will not see it.
23 And they will say to you, ‘Look, there!’ or ‘Look, here!’ Do not go out or follow them.
24 For as the lightning flashes and lights up the sky from one side to the other,
so will the Son of Man be in his day.
25 But first he must suffer many things
and
be rejected by this generation.
26 Just as it was in the days of Noah, so will it be in the days of the Son of Man.
27 They were eating and drinking and marrying and being given in marriage,
until the day when Noah entered the ark,
and
the flood came and destroyed them all.
28 Likewise, just as it was in the days of Lot—they were eating and drinking,
buying and selling, planting and building,
29 but on the day when Lot went out from Sodom, fire and sulfur rained from heaven and destroyed them all— 30 so will it be on the day when the Son of Man is revealed.
31 On that day, let the one who is on the housetop, with his goods in the house, not come down to take them away, and likewise let the one who is in the field not turn back.
32 Remember Lot's wife.
33 Whoever seeks to preserve his life will lose it, but whoever loses his life will keep it.
34 I tell you, in that night there will be two in one bed.
One will be taken and the other left.
35 There will be two women grinding together. One will be taken and the other left.”
37 And they said to him,
“Where, Lord?”
He said to them, “Where the corpse is, there the vultures will gather.”
